29. Mark Darcy, Feminist

Throughout the film, Mark is defending an all girl band that is supposed to be reminiscent of the band Pussy Riot. They’re being silenced for their music and he gets them the freedom to create whatever kind of songs they want. In return, the band and other women of London decide to have a march.

The problem is that this march is what stops traffic and forces everyone to be late for the birth of Bridget’s baby. As everyone comes in, they complain about the march and with each new guest, Mark feels the need to explain why it’s important.

It’s his little act of feminism that makes Mark Darcy even more appealing to the modern day woman. He continues to tell Bridget that she’s strong and she did everything on her own and she can get through anything she puts her mind to. He defends an all girls group that is being silenced and when they march for their rights, he is in full support.

Basically, Mark Darcy is what male feminists should be and he doesn’t do it to be ‘right’. He supports women and their rights because it’s just how he’s wired. And, again, this is why Mark Darcy is absolutely perfect.
