21. Mark Attends The Funeral Of His Enemy

All of the Bridget Jones movies center around the feud between Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy. Best friends turned enemies fighting over the same girl, makes for a great series, right? So when Bridget Jones’s Baby opened with the funeral of Daniel, it was surprising when Mark showed up to pay his respects.

Shazza makes a comment about how he’s there to make sure that Daniel really is dead but, in reality, he’s there because that was once his best friend. Daniel was the best man at his wedding and Mark Darcy isn’t the kind of person who just let’s Daniel’s death go.

He will always be the bigger man no matter the situation. It’s a quality of Darcy that has been continuously shown and is proven by this scene. He could have very easily just let the funeral go by and not attend but instead, he went out of his way to go and was upset about it. His ex-wife joined him at the funeral out of support, proving that Mark was actually affected by his old friend’s death.

Yes, they fought and had a falling out but Daniel was still an important person in Mark’s life at some point and Mark was upset by his passing.
