Catwoman-DC Comics

3. Catwoman

Who she is: You don’t know who Catwoman is? She’s commonly associated with Batman, though her history is much richer than just antagonizing the Caped Crusader. The most famous woman in leather is Selina Kyle, a jewel thief with bullwhips and retractable claws. Regardless of her villainous ways, Catwoman has some heroic moments of her own. As one of Batman’s closest allies, her skewed moral compass often conflicts with his quest for justice.

Why she deserves a tv show: Basically, Catwoman has appeared in almost everything Batman has. We’ve seen Batman’s origin story like a billion times and still no proper Catwoman story. Michelle Pfeiffer’s mousy depiction of the character in Batman Returns (1992) was cute. Then, Anne Hathaway added a layer of street smarts and helped throw Gotham into chaos in The Dark Knight Rises (2012). Still, her enigmatic personality deserves a chance to develop on a television series of her own, where she can have long, layered storylines and the world can meet Helena Wayne properly and not how The WB introduced her in Birds of Prey (2002).

Honestly, how fun would it be if the first ten episodes are just about some woman who spends thirty minutes in the aisle of the grocery store trying to figure out which unscented cat litter is best? Just make her as average and unsuspecting as possible with the only indication of her double life being that her name is Selina Kyle. At the same time, removing too much of her comics background results in hot messes like Halle Berry’s Catwoman film.

Who could play her: Thandie Newton, please.
