As the landscape for superhero TV shows continues to evolve, we take a look at 10 female superheroes who deserve a series of their own.

Depending on who you ask, superhero comics are like the bible. They provide readers with the ideals to strive for and the morals to live by — courage, kindness, and standing up for what’s right, even when you’re standing alone. While Superman’s nobility is admirable, he’ll never understand motherhood, bad hair days, and especially, that time of the month when biology hits us with her best shot.

Cue all the superheroines who can kick butt and do it while wearing heels.

Let’s all be honest: female superheroes are underrepresented in every medium. For now, we’ll only focus on television, the land of multi-episode story arcs and smaller budgets. From 1975-1979, Wonder Woman’s success paved the way for more modern shows like Supergirl and Agent Carter. In the gaps broadcast television left behind, streaming services like Netflix gave us more nuanced characters like Jessica Jones.

Fortunately, CW mega-hits Arrow and The Flash have an ensemble of supporting female characters who are powerful and resourceful. Yet, the audience starves for more TV shows with females in the lead, especially those of the superhero persuasion. In a post-Buffy and Alias world, it’s time to showcase some of the best women in comics.

So, here are ten female superheroes and comic book characters who deserve a television series of their own.
