Rediscovering Labyrinth: 13 Things to Notice
Screencap from TriStar Pictures
Does No One Have a Bedroom?
Like my issues with the Bog of Eternal Stench, there’s some wonky set designs in the early scenes. Sarah’s room is a jumbled mish-mash of fairy-tale items builty for a little girl and Broadway posters that would imply an older teenager. When Sarah walks into her room she immediately notices her favorite teddy bear, Lancelot, is missing. She finds it flung out of Toby’s crib, but did the set decorator account for how Toby would have picked it up. The bear was on a shelf in the middle of Sarah’s wall. Unless Toby is a spider monkey – and he could be! – it’s doubtful he got it. Why not just construct a toy chest or lower shelf that would make the audience believe Toby isn’t demon spawn climbing the walls.
Later, when Sarah’s in her parents bedroom, we see Toby’s crib in a weird side position, as if it was dragged there for filming purposes. The crib placement wouldn’t be my problem, but we see a changing table right behind it. Now, unless that crib is moved back and forth constantly, how are they accessing said changing table?
