SOCHI, RUSSIA – FEBRUARY 23: Sidney Crosby

8. The Domination of Team Canada

If hockey was a movie, Team Canada would be the villain. They’re just that good. They’re always the team to beat and this year is no exception.  They’ve won gold in three of the last four Olympic Games and were the winners of the last World Cup. This year they are playing at home which means the team’s desire to win will be stronger than ever. And with players like Sidney Crosby from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand both from the Boston Bruins playing on a line together dangerous things are bound to happen.

Canada may have faltered in their first exhibition game against the United States, losing 4-2 in a physical game, but they more than made up for it in game two. Team Canada should not be counted out. Despite the loss, they outplayed Team USA controlling possession of the puck and shots on goal in both games. These players have played together for years in international competitions giving them a  level of comfort with each other many other teams lack.  The games are only to get better from here and it’s worth watching to see Canada take on other opponents with the skill and high level of play we have come to expect from such competitors.
