6. The Goalies

There are three goalies on each team and I wouldn’t want to be the coach who has to decide who to put in the net. Each team has a great selection to choose from, some of the best the league has to offer.

Carey Price from the Montreal Canadiens is in the net for Team Canada after being out since last November when he was injured during a game. His playing was shaky in his first game where he let in 3 goals (the 4th was scored on an empty net). The World Cup looks to be a good chance for Price to get back into fighting form, but he may not be given the chance with Braden Holtby of the Washington Capitals and Corey Crawford also on the team’s roster.

Goaltending might be Team USA’s saving grace against the powerful Canadians. They have three strong choices all with impressive credentials.  Jonathan Quick from the L.A. Kings started for the team and delivered a seriously impressive performance in his first game. He boasts two Stanley Cups as well as an MVP win to his name. Also on the roster are Ben Bishop of the Tampa Bay Lightning who lead his team to the Stanley Cup finals this year and Cory Schneider of the New Jersey Devils.

There’s also Sweden with Henrik Lundqvist from the New York Rangers, Finland with a choice between Tuukka Rask from the Boston Bruins and Pekka Rinne from the Nashville Predators, and 22 year old Matt Murray from the Pittsburgh Penguins who already has one shut out for Team North America. Look for these players to make big moves for their teams and decide some major games, especially if it comes down to shutouts.
