Clinton Heroically Braves Pneumonia to Attend 9/11 Ceremony
Hillary Clinton revealed that she was suffering from pneumonia after leaving an event early on Sunday, raising questions about her health and capability.
It’s tough being a working woman in the modern era. So much is expected of us, and many women feel immense pressure to be on the ball 24/7, never taking a break or a day off lest we are seen as weak or unable to keep up. We have to work a lot harder to prove that we are just as capable as men, and this means powering through times of illness and stress, or working through a pregnancy until the second the baby is ready to come out, then returning to work shortly thereafter. You don’t complain, because someone has to get the job done.
Hillary Clinton perfectly encapsulates this idea of the nonstop working woman. She attended a 9/11 memorial event on Sunday despite being ill with walking pneumonia, and did her best to power through and perform her duties as a presidential candidate.
Although the media and the Twitterverse have been focusing on the fact that she was so sick she had to leave early, not many have looked at her appearance on Sunday as a feat of strength. She was so sick that she could barely keep herself upright, but she showed up anyway and did her job. It’s unfortunate that she had to make a quick exit, but good for her for pulling herself together and continuing to take care of business.

Being President of the United States is a 24/7 job. You always have to be on the ball no matter what, powering through even in times of illness and incredible stress. Oh wait, that sounds familiar. There are an awful lot of obnoxious men on the news who want to speculate forever about Hillary Clinton’s health and her ability to do the job, and a handful of conspiracy theories floating around saying that she’s terminally ill, she’s too weak, too old, and simply not capable of being the president. Doesn’t this episode prove just how capable she is?

Few people have had the pleasure of being ripped apart by the media as thoroughly as Hillary Clinton has. Long before she was campaigning to be president, as Secretary of State, as First Lady, as an attorney and the wife of the governor of Arkansas, she has known the immense pressure of being a working woman and being in the public eye. She has always juggled multiple roles as a wife and mother on top of her long career first in law and later in politics. You can bet that this wasn’t her first time having to suck it up and attend to her obligations despite feeling like garbage.
Most average people would take several days off work if they were struck with pneumonia and spend the whole time lying in bed moaning and feeling sorry for themselves. Being sick sucks and you just want to do nothing while someone to takes care of you. When you’re Hillary Clinton, there isn’t any time to do nothing. Instead of making fun of her and being outraged that she dared to catch an illness, doesn’t it make more sense to be in awe of her perseverance?
Hillary Clinton is every woman who has ever been sick yet still had to go to work, take care of the kids, make dinner for the family, clean the house, look put together, and prove something to the world. She embodies the ideal of the working woman who never shuts down, never takes a break, and always strives to please people and live up to high expectations.
