15. Robert Baratheon: “Gaston”

"No one shoots like Gaston Makes those beauts like Gaston Then goes tromping around wearing boots like Gaston I use antlers in all of my decorating! My, what a guy Gaston! —Beauty and the Beast"

In terms of character, Thrones’ Robert and Disney’s Gaston have plenty in common. Both big, burly, and boisterous, the two men have a knack for self-congratulation and not understanding women (to put it mildly). If they weren’t both dead and fictional, they might have gotten on famously. That is, if they could fit both of their enormous egos in the same tavern.

Gaston’s titular musical number really exemplifies the similarities between the two. Robert is known for hunting, whoring, and traipsing about like he’s the most impressive man in town. Seeing as how he’s king, that’s not actually too far off the mark, but you’d think he could be a bit more gracious about it. But “Gaston” the song and Robert the character are all about denouncing humility in favor of exaggerating one’s importance.

During his short stint on the show, Robert spent much of his time looking fondly upon the past and how great he used to be. “Gaston,” meanwhile, is meant to talk Gaston up when he’s feeling down because Belle don’t want no scrubs. I could just as easily picture a group of drunken Westerosi singing Robert’s praises in a bar somewhere. In fact, it probably did happen, theoretically sometime after Lyanna Stark ran away with Rhaegar Targaryen. Game of Thrones is no musical, but let’s entertain the thought, anyway.

In a nutshell, it’s all about soothing hurt man feelings, which is a driving force behind Gaston and Robert both. The fact that Gaston’s interior design revolves around antlers—an element of the Baratheon sigil—is just an added bonus.
