3. Daenerys Targaryen: “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”
"I’m gonna be a mighty king So enemies beware (Well, I’ve never seen a king of beasts With quite so little hair) I’m gonna be the main event Like no king was before I’m brushing up on looking down I’m working on my roar This child is getting wildly out of wing— Oh, I just can’t wait to be king! —The Lion King"
The more I listen to it, the better it gets.
Daenerys’ entire arc has been her preparation for taking and ruling the Seven Kingdoms. Whether she accomplishes this goal remains to be seen, but she is taking steps in the right direction. Now that Daenerys is on her way to Westeros, she’ll certainly be closer to that potential endgame than she’s been for the past six seasons.
Within that time period, Daenerys has forged quite the reputation for herself: Daenerys Stormborn, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and of the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons. It’s a mouthful, but her enemies won’t soon forget it—the enemies she chose to spare, anyway. Many of her opposers in Essos met with their own personal barbecue, courtesy of one of Daenerys’ dragons, and sometimes for no other reason than to send a message. “This child is getting wildly out of wing,” indeed.
But since Tyrion’s arrival, Daenerys has simmered. I think her future is more up in the air than most, so it’s difficult to pin down any solid speculation, but this shift in her attitude has been apparent. She seems to be willing to take his advice where she often questioned Jorah and Ser Barristan both. Since Tyrion has ties to Westeros and, as of now, is Daenerys’ only link to the Starks and the North, this can only be to her benefit. Kings may not take orders from “little hornbills,” but if Daenerys wants to make it as queen, she’ll certainly need to take Tyrion’s advice to heart.
