3. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (September 30th)

(Based on the YA book by Ransom Riggs)

What: After a family tragedy, sixteen year old Jacob (Asa Butterfield) discovers an abandoned orphanage called Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Through a series of timey-whimey events he finds the home is populated with kids who have varying abilities, from a girl who can control fire to a boy who can bring back the dead for a time. Jacob has to learn where he and his family fit into all of this, as well as who he can trust, all while discovering his own powers.

Why We’re Excited: The cast for this film is one reason to be very excited because it features some incredibly talented people including crossbow wielding Eva Green as Miss Peregrin, Samuel L. Jackson as Barron, Allison Janney as Dr. Golan, Judi Dench as Miss Avocet, and Chris O’Dowd as Jacob’s dad Franklin. And that’s not even including the cast of kids who play the Peculiar Children. The film is also being directed by Tim Burton whose quirky, off-beat style seems perfect for a film with a girl who has a mouth in the back of her head.

There are two other books in the series, Hollow City and Library of Souls in case you really want to read ahead and prepare in case the film does well and gets picked up for a sequel.
