What: After fighting in World War I, Tom (Michael Fassbender) takes a position as a caretaker of a lighthouse on the remote island of Janus Rock. He is joined by his wife Isabel (Alicia Vikander) who suffers miscarriages and a stillbirth which leave her grieving and in pain. One day the couple finds a boat containing a dead man and a baby and decides to keep the child and raise her as their own. What follows is a devastating story about their choices, loss, and coming back to the world.
Why We’re Excited: Alicia Vikander is one of the most interesting actresses working today with films such as Ex Machina, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Danish Girl already winning her critical acclaim and the love of fans. This film is another chance for her to show off her dramatic acting chops as a distraught mother who will do anything to keep the child she believes belongs to her.
