"‘Cause you’re such a burden But you’re the weight off of my shoulder ‘Cause even though I’m hurting It still feels like it’s time I’m growing"

Captain Obvious speaking: Breakups suck. Whether you know it’s for the best or you’re not so sure, “The Talk” isn’t any fun, nor is the immediate aftermath. It’s awkward and painful and sometimes so dramatic you begin to wonder where the cast of One Tree Hill is. But you learn something from every relationship, and you take that with you afterwards.

So it hurts. You cry, it’s hard to breathe, and you eat cartons of ice cream in an attempt to freeze your heart so you’ll never feel this way again (in times like these, please remember, this is not scientifically possible; I’ve looked into it). You wear the same sweatpants for a week, your hair goes unwashed, and for awhile you’re just not your usual fabulous self. These are the details every dating column gets right. They’re cliché and true in equal measure.

Eventually, though, you start to feel a little less empty and a little more light. All the tension of the last months, weeks, days of your relationship has melted away. You don’t have to sweat it anymore. All the problems within the relationship have vanished along with it. Surely there are some issues for you to deal with now, but you can do that totally uninhibited. For however long the heartache lasts, you grow out of it as you grow as your own person.
