Sam Heughan, best known as the actor playing Jamie Fraser to Caitrione Balfey’s Claire Randall in Starz’s Outlander series, has a Scottish accent to make lasses melt and a pair of broad shoulders to match. He even won the BBC Anglo Fan Favorites Man of 2014 over David friggin’ Tennant. The ginger-haired star has acted on stage for years after graduating from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, but didn’t receive worldwide acclaim until landing a leading role in the popular series that blends historical fiction with romance and time travel. “I never once dreamed of sort of being able to be in an American TV series, you know?” he’s been quoted as saying. “It was all about theater and touring and sort of being an actor around Scottish theater.”
