4. Prince, “Gett Off” (1991)

How do you know you created a memorable moment/ When the next year someone shows up wearing your outfit from the year before. That’s what happened to Prince, who saw his yellow leather laser assless outfit show up on the body of Howard Stern the very next year. But there was no need. Prince had already laid down what my be the epitome of male sensuality ever captured on the MTV stage.

Prince was always a sexy muthaf*cka, from the beginning. But his decadence peaked in the early 90s with the album Diamonds and Pearls, and songs like “Gett Off.” Staging it was another matter. A full on Calguila-like bacchanal was happening behind him in this performance, making it hard to focus on the actually song, until first he turned around and then second, went to town on the guitar. We will not see his like again. 23 positions and a one night stand indeed.

Next: Madonna, “Vogue” (1990)
