The Ten Best VMA Performances Of All Time
By Ani Bundel
2. Beyoncé, “Medley” 2014
Ah, the difference between 2008 and 2014. In six years, performances at the VMAs went from “YouTube exclusives” celebrating the new digital format as a way to distribute content to the masses via the internet to a place where you cannot find the performance anywhere, because Viacom has pulled them for copyright reasons.
Thankfully Beyoncé’s tour de force from 2014 still exists though some places on the internet. And for that would should be thankful. Lipsyncing? No way, Bey is far too classy for that. Not only is she going to sing this medley almost from beginning to end, but she’s going to dance the entire 16 minutes just to show you she can. It was a reminder that though the VMAs may be full of Taylor Swifts and Miley Cyruses, there is only one Beyoncé, and she stands above them, an entire league beyond them all. Are we surprised then that two years after she’s giving the VanGuard Award for a career well had that they’re nominating her for the most awards for an artist in a bid to get her to come back?
