Season 2 of Poldark begins in less than two weeks. We look back at Season 1 and see how it compares to the novels by Winston Graham.

Alas, there is only a week and a half left before we can once again be graced by that sly smile of Aidan Turner’s as he steps once again into the role of Ross Poldark. On September 4th, Season 2 of BBC One’s series, Poldark, will commence, continuing the vast improvement over the original ’70’s version. As the first season covered the first two books in the Poldark series, Ross Poldark and Demelza, the second season will cover Jeremy Poldark and Warleggan.

Head’s up: I intend to thoroughly spoil both books and the entire first season. If you’re still missing out on any of that, get thee to a library and indulge, then come back for the rest.

Here, have a trailer for Season Two:

Season One ended on a tumultuous cliffhanger, with Ross arrested for helping the miners salvage a Warleggan wreck, baby Julia dead from putrid throat, the smithing and mining operations all but sunk, and Demelza left alone to pick up what pieces she can. It’s a crazy place for a season to end, and leaves one wondering how the heck everything Ross touches ends up such a mess. To answer that, let’s look back at each episode of Season One and assess what happened, and how it compares to the world Winston Graham brought to life in the Poldark novels.
