Life After Doctor Who: Where Are The Companions Now?

Alex Kingston appeared on Doctor Who off and on from 2008 to 2015. She worked opposite three different Doctors during her time as River Song, and her character’s timeline was so complicated we needed flow charts. For example: She (somehow) turned out to be the daughter of companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams. Oh, and she also married and (kind of) murdered the Doctor, too.
So, yeah, River was a pretty substantial (if endlessly confusing) role.
The 2015 Christmas special implied that River’s storyline is fairly concluded. But you never know with this show, so maybe don’t bet on that. But if you’re missing River, don’t worry. Like many series alumni, Kingston is busy recording Doctor Who audio dramas, one of which (intriguingly) pairs her with Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor. And there’s apparently another in the pipeline which will feature Sylvester McCoy. (Maybe River really will meet all the Doctors some day!)
Outside of the TARDIS, Kingston has had roles in Law and Order: SVU, Private Practice, Lost in Austen and Marchlands. She costarred in the ITV crime drama Chasing Shadows with fellow Who alum Noel Clarke, and can be seen in a recurring role as Detective Quentin Lance’s ex-wife Dinah on the CW’s Arrow. She’s also done a fair bit of theater, most recently performing Lady Macbeth opposite Kenneth Branagh in London and New York.
