After leaving Doctor Who, Agyeman went on to make a couple of appearances as Martha Jones on spinoff series Torchwood. For some incomprehensible reason, Team Torchwood did not make her a regular, which frustrated fans everywhere. (Seriously, Martha would have been such a perfect addition to that cast!)
Maybe that worked out for the best, since Agyeman went on to land several major roles after leaving the Whoniverse behind. She had an six-season run on procedural Law & Order UK and appeared in the BBC’s remake of sci-fi classic Survivors. After crossing over to American television, she played young Carrie Bradshaw’s mentor in the short-lived CW Sex and the City prequel, The Carrie Diaries.
Ageyman is currently starring in Netflix original Sense8. There she plays playing Amanita, the girlfriend of one of the “sensates”, eight connected strangers who basically have visions together. And, spoiler alert: she is awesome in it.
The second season of Sense8 is currently in production, and its release date is TBD.
