10. Claire’s Paris Look
Terry Dresbach did a fantastic job portraying a genuine version of 18th-century Scottish style but season two is a different beast altogether. The bulk of season two takes place in the fashion capital of the world, Paris France. Dresbach knew fans of the books had an expectation of what Parisian style in the 18th-century resembled. She started designing the clothing for France a year in advance. She started with the lead actors clothing since it would take the longest to construct and then create clothing for the shows 1000 extras. Terry Dresbach did not have a script for season two but was very familiar with Outlander series book two, Dragonfly in Amber.
Claire and Jamie are hobnobbing with royalty in Paris but are not royalty themselves. Jamie is working for his uncle, and Claire is volunteering at a hospital. Book readers and show watchers know the character Claire is very bold, outspoken and practical. She has no real use for frippery. Dresbach dressed Claire in very soft materials and floral colors. It is in stark contrast to some of the other female characters who are shrouded in lace, bows and flowers. Claire is clearly sending a message of I will blend in with the Parisian aristocracy, but I am not you.
