Eight years ago, Misty-May Treanor and Kerry Walsh had gone undefeated for over a year and just won their second of three straight Olympic golds. The former went on that post-Olympic season of Dancing with the Stars, and showed potential to possibly even win. Then, during a practice for the third week, she ruptured her Achilles tendon. She was not only out of the show, but also out of competition for a year. It was the end of the team’s dominance, and Treanor retired not long after, although she came out of retirement to win the gold with Walsh-Jennings, as she was by then, in London.
Looking at what her attempt at the show did to her partner, it would be understandable enough if Walsh-Jennings wanted nothing to do it with it. But she could see it chance to banish the demons of Treanor’s fate from the dance floor. The showrunners would no doubt love to see her do that. She’s willing to be on reality TV. She and her husband Casey Jennings were on Celebrity Wife Swap. That she failed to win gold in Rio may even make her want another place where she can triumph. If she’s as good as her partner was pre-injury, she could win, and she no doubt knows that.
