David Boudia, Diving

Diving, if it has often opened or closed NBC’s Olympic prime time, still has not quite gotten the status in the US as swimming. This may be because we don’t win as many medals in it. (The Chinese win the majority of the golds.) But David Boudia, currently in his third Olympics, is someone who’s managed to get some attention. He’s one of only two non-Chinese divers to win Olympic gold in London, taking it in the 10 meter platform. He came out of Rio with two more medals. Neither of them were gold, but his name was already big enough it’s unlikely Dancing with the Stars would care.

But that’s not the only place Boudia has appeared on TV. He also appeared as a judge on the short-lived Splash, which had him judging dives by celebrities, a show pretty similar in concept to Dancing with the Stars. That establishes him as someone not adverse to these types of shows, or being involved in them. If he’s willing to be judged himself for something other than diving, he could extend the TV career here.
