46. Brienne of Tarth’s Armor (Season 4)
In the early seasons of Game of Thrones, Arya got props for being the rebel dressing like a boy. But let us not forget, Arya is only a child, and one who was, at the time, avoiding Westerosi society. It takes far greater nerve to stand in the middle of the madding crowd and refuse to conform. Enter Brienne.
There is a scene in Season 4 where Brienne presents herself to Lady Margaery and Lady Olenna, and the latter looks upon her as if she has never seen a more magnificent specimen of a human woman. Imagine, then, if Olenna had first laid eyes on her as we did, dressed in bronzed armor and mail, every inch the impressive, yet feminine, knight. Grandmother might have lost her head and fired the lot of those giggly girls she surrounds herself with, and their endless rose cross stitches.
Brienne was a solider fit for the QueensGuard, even if that shade of bronze didn’t suit her. (Renly was also surprisingly dullish in those shades of bronze-ish brown too. You would think a King as close to out and proud as he was would have made everyone around him look a little more fabulous.) But when Jaime replaced that set of brass colored plates with the same pattern in a more expensive, beautiful silver metal, she went from fine a fine specimen to a full fashion statement. Entitle it: How To Challenge The Patriarchy By Existing.
