33. Margaery’s Married Woman Gown (Season 5)

Margaery married well, time and time again. But after the loss of her first husband, and the speedy death of her second, it was very important that everyone take her third seriously. Especially considering the bridegroom, Tommen Baratheon, was not yet 15. Margaery wanted to make sure everyone knew who was queen now. More importantly, she wanted to make sure everyone knew she and Tommen were a unit. Her Tyrell blues and greens, which was always at least a part of every outfit, were banished. Not just from her own outfits, but from her maids’ outfits as well. (Only one or two still have a touch of the Tyrell color as an accent, but it’s striking how fast they all switched to gold.)

More importantly, unlike her maids, Margaery isn’t even wearing the Tyrell silhouette anymore. Instead she is showing herself to be one with her new permanent home of King’s Landing, wearing a southron cut style of gown, the same way Sansa swapped wholesale after arriving here back in Season 1. But unlike Sansa, who was wearing them to imitate Cersei, Margaery is doing it to displace her. After all, there’s only room for one Queen in the Red Keep.
