38. Ser Bronn of the Blackwater (Season 5)

When Bronn the Sellsword hitched his fate to Tyrion Lannister way back in Season 1 of Game of Thrones, did he ever imagine he would wind up looking wonderfully middle class one day? Maybe he did, or maybe he just thought he’d wind up with a bag of gold he could drink away. But by Season 4, he’d seen enough of King’s Landing to know there was more. For those who wondered why he abandoned Tyrion in his hour of need, this was why: black supple boots, a luxe black doublet that hangs down in the kind of skirt a man who doesn’t have to work for his food would wear, gold-billowed sleeves with a tasteful but showy pattern, and a soft-looking, innocent yet pliable wife-to-be on his arm.

Bronn’s fiancee is given to him by Cersei. But we would easily be able to guess that. Lollys is wearing the same King’s Landing southron silhouette Cersei sported in the early seasons. She says she doesn’t like the Capitol, but she follows their fashions. It’s a picture of respectability. It was all a man of Bronn’s low birth could have ever imagined wanting, and his smile matches that. Too bad Jaime Fookin’ Lannister had to interrupt…
