20 Classic Films That Could Be Rebooted with Female Leads
By Carly Lane
8. Se7en, with Anna Torv and Viola Davis
I’ll get this out of the way first: Se7en screwed me up for days when I first watched it. I MEAN DAYS. There’s a lot to appreciate about this movie, from the dark themes to the engrossing mystery of the killer who offs his victims in tribute to the seven deadly sins. However, I would not recommend watching this movie at any time other than during the day because it is nightmare fuel. If you take all that into consideration, it’s a thrilling movie experience – and you will never be able to look at boxes the same way ever again.
A reboot starring Anna Torv in the Brad Pitt role and Viola Davis in the Morgan Freeman role would definitely give this movie a much-needed kickstart in terms of assigning strong parts to women. In the original Se7en, the only prominent female characters really exist to serve as victims, or as impetus to fuel the plot of the male leads. Putting women at the forefront of the story would make for a powerful retelling, that’s for sure. Besides all that, we’ve seen Torv play law enforcement before on Fringe, and Viola Davis is Viola freakin’ Davis. Any more questions?
