4. James Bond, with Gillian Anderson

When the #NextBond campaign began trending on Twitter, there was one actress who playfully added her name in for consideration: Gillian Anderson. The actress tweeted out a fan-created image which included her standing in front of that classic gun barrel sequence that occurs before every James Bond film. Even though Anderson’s tweet wasn’t official confirmation of any casting, the prospect of a female Bond had many fans excited over the potential for shaking things up within a classic franchise that, to date, had only featured white men as James Bond.

If there’s one character of Anderson’s that could come the closest to encapsulating the cool steeliness of 007, it’s hands down her DSI Stella Gibson on BBC’s The Fall. Stella is a woman of authority who has a keen deductive eye and a penchant for calling it like she sees it – and in her world, that often means the ruffling of a few feathers. Like Bond, though, Stella’s not afraid to get tough – and she’s also left her fair share of broken hearts in her wake. As Stella, Anderson pulls off the cool, calm collectiveness that would be necessary in the role of James Bond – or, should we say, Jane Bond?
