20 Best Summer Songs of 2016, Ranked
20 – We’re All Somebody From Somewhere – Steven Tyler
I’m sorry if you hate country, and I promise this is the only country song on the list. Do you like “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” by Cage the Elephant? This sounds a lot (maybe too much?) like that, albeit without the catchy anecdotes in the verses. It took me longer than it should have to realize that this similarity in style is likely because Steven Tyler is from Aerosmith originally and has only recently wandered into the country scene. Perhaps I need to brush up on my Aerosmith knowledge, because this was not something I expected. The overall results are mixed so far, but this particular effort is okay.
I think it’s the eclectic mix of sound in a “country” song that gets me about this track, because it feels like a piece I shouldn’t like but do anyway. There’s those blues horns in the background during the chorus, the funky guitar solo bridge, and scat–scat! When do we ever hear scat anymore? I am bouncing in my seat to this summer song.
