10 Mat’s Gingerbread Fire Engine & Earl Grey Tea Biscuits
From Week Two, the “Biscuit Challenge,” which is a challenge where Americans are forced to sit down and accept the idea that the proper name for “cookie” is in fact “biscuit.” With only one challenge so far, this week was still a matter of feeling out the contestants, and seeing whose successes last week were mostly a fluke, and who might actually be the real deal.
The Showstopper Challenge on Biscuit week was to make 24 biscuit cookies and also a box to serve them in, out of a different kind of Biscuit. This proved difficult for many, and that was before host Sue accidentally leaned on Nadiya’s Biscuit box lid and broke it. But Mat, the contestant whose dayjob was a fireman, came up with an inspiring design. His box, in which he served “Earl Grey flavored” biscuits backed in a tea bag form, was a firetruck. Paul Hollywood was like a five year old at Christmas who had just received his first one.
