9. Rey

The much-anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens had fans talking of little else before and after its release. The newest addition to the saga was a box office hit and remains a hot-button topic across the web. The film’s casting of Daisy Ridley and John Boyega especially continues to cause a stir. But there can be no doubt that both actors brought the house down in their performances of Rey and Finn, respectively.

These characters have inspired a new generation of Star Wars fans, and with it new opportunities for cosplay. Along with unlikely heroes Rey and Finn, the dashing Poe Dameron, the instantly lovable BB-8, and the reprehensible Kylo Ren have hit the cosplay scene in droves. BB-8 may be the favorite among kids. But this Rey lookalike has the clothes and the spunk to pull off everyone’s new favorite Jedi-in-training. If this foray into fandom is any indication, this kid’s definitely got a bright cosplay future ahead of her.

Little girls looking up to Rey’s determination, fierceness, and independence is an important lesson in representation. As such it’s a big step in the right direction when we see so many of them pulling their hair back in Rey’s signature style and grabbing a lightsaber. Watch out, Kylo Ren—you’ve got a veritable force coming for you.
