We take a look at some of the most accurate, elaborate, and imaginative cosplays of the year.

Every fandom has its own unique ways to keep participants informed, involved, and entertained while they wait on the next installment. Some of the most popular fandoms rely on standalone books or movies (e.g., Disney, Studio Ghibli), or have otherwise met their end (e.g., Lord of the Rings). But there’s still plenty of fun to be had exploring those stories and characters. One of the best ways to capitalize on that fun is in cosplays. Dressing up and, if you’re really committed, acting out characters.

Cosplay is a tried and true way of celebrating any fandom. Whether you scour the internet to find all the pieces to make a perfect costume, or if you can throw one together from odds and ends already in your closet, dressing up as your favorite character is a popular way to show up to any convention. It’s like Halloween for any month of the year, and a surefire conversation starter at cons. After all, even the simplest of outfits tends to generate a positive response from fellow fans. Both newcomers and veterans can learn a thing or two from each other. It’s all about helping make their own cosplays better with each passing Comic-Con.

With another year coming to its end, we’ve left dozens of these conventions behind, and with them some truly jaw-dropping cosplays. Whether they go big or keep it simple, however these fans render their favorite characters, they’re all dressed to the nines in the best of nerd chic.
