Culturess takes a look at identity crisis driven food trends of the past and present from baked goods to produce to rappers!

These are turbulent times in the world, we’re all questioning everything about who we are and how our world works. Even food is having a hard time these days. Every time I go to the grocery store or look on the internet, another food item having an identity crisis shows up. These items are more than just a fusion of flavors, they’re one thing trying to be another.

My Facebook news feed has bits about strange new foods nestled between celebrity gossip and current events. Food is obviously an important topic on our minds and the current trend is to promote anything considered creative, with mashups being A Thing.

Can one baked good also be another? Is a fruit a candy? When is a rapper not a rapper? Should a chip be a beverage? When is a bread not a bread?
