J.K. Rowling made a surprise appearance over the weekend at a Scottish book club after seeing they’d be discussing The Cuckoo’s Calling.

Everyone knows that J.K. Rowling is very active on Twitter. But you might want to be careful about announcing your next book club meeting discussing the works of her alter ego Robert Galbraith and his Cormoran Strike series. Apparently Rowling is a huge fan of the series (who knew?) and she’d love to sit with fans of the author and hear what others think of his work. Even if she’s not actually a member of the book club!
It started with the following tweet sent out by the Orkney Library about their next book club gathering. Perhaps it was the “atting” of Galbraith that caught Rowling’s attention? (I assume she manages both Twitter accounts.)

But the next thing the library’s social media person knew, they were having a love chat with with most famous author in Scotland.
@jk_rowling @RGalbraith It certainly will be. If you set off for Scrabster now you should still catch the ferry...

Apparently she’s not big on travelling in weather though. No wonder spell induced travel is her favorite mode of trasportation.
@OrkneyLibrary @RGalbraith No wait... you want Robert, not me. He can drive (I can't).

We won’t get into the psychological implications of her male alter ego’s ability to drive versus her own. Suffice to say, it’s probably good someone in her head can drive, even if it’s her other personality.
@OrkneyLibrary @RGalbraith What kind of cake?
— J.K. Rowling (@jk_rowling) March 4, 2016
Cake? Why didn’t you say so?
@OrkneyLibrary @RGalbraith Robert (and Strike) are both partial to fruitcake. Something with a bit of heft to it. I like lemon drizzle cake.

Game of Thrones fans take note; J.K. Rowling and Sansa both love lemon cakes.
And we have the lemon cake on standby just in case @jk_rowling turns up #shopbought #weapologise pic.twitter.com/AmADuuEE42

Well, since there’s cake…. look who turned up! (Please note, we do not know if Rowling drove or Apparated to the event. We’re assuming it was the latter though.
We had a very special guest at Saturday Slaughters today. Thanks so much @jk_rowling Come back soon x pic.twitter.com/GVaXSVX88O

Apparently, since she was in attendance, Rowling also had the library’s statue sorted.

And she got to fan girl over her own favorite author:
.@OrkneyLibrary I had the best time! Thanks for wonderful chat, cake and, of course, letting me touch The Book. pic.twitter.com/VCrU2lJAT6

Time for bed. Today has been crazy and wonderful. The Wooden Woman has a Sorting Hat and Thelma has a famous fan! pic.twitter.com/IhK7LRKoCf

Let this be a lesson to you all, and to libraries around the UK area. Next time you’re having a book club featuring the Cormoran Strike series, and you tweet about it…have some lemon drizzle cake on hand. Because you never know who might turn up.
