Sure, Lola is a trans podcaster suddenly roped into helping her town solve a mystery involving a murderer’s ghost. And that’s pretty cool. Returning to your home town for the holidays is difficult enough—but soon after transitioning? That’s gotta be the stuff of nightmares, right? Any horror fan can tell you that the Aussies do not shy away from the bloody stuff in their horror films. Carnage for Christmas is no exception.

Sally doesn’t have to solve mysteries or engage in fisticuffs to be a stellar holiday heroine. She’s honest, crafty, great at stitching, and employs the judicious use of magic to everything from finding a boyfriend to escaping her creator. Sally also gets to save Christmas, rescue Santa from a singing sack of bugs, and even fall in love with her crush in the end.
