Game of Thrones season 8 possible spoilers: Don’t forget about this character

Game of Thrones season 8 may see a particular character make a comeback, and the evidence looks pretty compelling as of right now.

Warning: There is a lot of potential that we’re discussing Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers below.

At this point, the unofficial theme song of Game of Thrones could be “Don’t You Forget About Me.” From Bran skipping an entire season to characters like Jaqen H’ghar popping up seasons later to play further roles in storylines, the cast of this show has always been huge, and a new report from our sister site, Winter is Coming, ultimately sourced from r/freefolk on Reddit, seems to only reinforce that anything is possible in season 8.

That’s because the freefolk subreddit appears to have discovered that Carice van Houten is back in Ireland and near filming locations. Granted, this is based primarily on a now-deleted post from van Houten on social media, but the deletion seems to smack of a new iteration of the “no selfies” rule that has been part of the season 8 production process.

WiC brings up that some of Melisandre’s last lines involve her saying that Varys has to die — as does she — in Westeros. Yours truly already speculated on those lines way back during season 7, although I have to confess I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t any payoff in the same season.

As we continue to wait for season 8, one has to guess that perhaps Melisandre and Varys will die together. However, that hinges on something that has to be considered. What if Melisandre’s prophecy is not actually true?

In that same speculative post, I pointed out that Melisandre’s been wrong about a lot before. Maybe she ends up living through the entire season. It’d be the ultimate irony for someone who’s so sure in the Lord of Light and her visions to be just like everyone else and not know when she will die, or just not die at all.

(Still speculating that dragon fire is involved in her death, though, if she does die. That one’s just too perfect.)
