“Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” Season 4 Episode 12 Synopsis: “Hot Potato Soup”

Back in the early stages of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD, we were introduced to the Koenigs as a bunch of identical brothers. Twins, triplets, septuplets, who knew? They joked that there were thirteen of them!

Honestly, we all wondered if they were life model decoys. But when Coulson turned out not to be one (thanks, Project TAHITI), we all just kind of assumed they were telling the truth.

But now! Now that it’s several seasons later and we’re deep in Marvel lore (sort of), Agents of SHIELD may have changed its tune. This week’s episode ushers in the return of the Koenigs! Hooray!

Here’s the official synopsis, courtesy of ABC:

"Agents Sam and Billy Koenig (Patton Oswalt) are hunted down to get at the Darkhold book, and only Coulson and the team can save them before the clock ticks out."

Since Grant Ward murdered one of the Koenigs, there’s been very little mention of them. One can only assume they’ve either retired from SHIELD service or are manning their own SHIELD stations around the world. They did love their lanyards.

Now we’ll see their return. And probably confirmation that they are some variety of walking clocks life model decoys. As far as we’ve been told, Radcliffe’s invention is the first of its kind. So who had the technology before him?

Either that, or all of this is just smoke and mirrors. The Koenigs really are triplets/septuplets and Coulson has placed the Darkhold in their care at an undisclosed SHIELD base location. We’ll find out in this week’s episode!
