The fourth and final season of Roswell, New Mexico on The CW is back and with it, we get a look at what happiness could be, what it won’t be, and some new aliens who are about to change everything.

It’s both a happy and sad time for fans of the rebooted Roswell series on The CW. While we are happy to have a new season of alien drama and love, we also know that this is the end of the road for our alien and non-alien friends. But before we get ahead of ourselves on the sadness train, we have a Season 4 premiere to dive into.

And what a way to kick off the final season! It’s been six months since the team was able to stop Jones from his attempts at destroying Max’s life and the lives of everyone in Roswell. Max and Liz are living together (happily), Michael has moved in with Alex (it would be happily if we could get Michael out of his head), Isabel apparently has a girlfriend, and even Dallas is settling in and connecting with Michael (he seems to have taken over Michael’s home).

But just because things are looking happy and healthy for almost everyone (poor Kyle and his unrequited love for Isabel), that doesn’t mean that there aren’t problems on the horizon. And those problems just so happen to be in the form of three new aliens in town.

Roswell Season 4 gives us a look at what our aliens’ lives could be

Much like Max, Isabel, and Michael are a trio, these three new aliens are apparently their own triad. And they are about to cause a lot of problems for Roswell and our friends. In fact, by the end of the episode, we are looking at a sky of purple and alien rain.

Something big is coming and it sounds like the happiness we saw in this premiere episode (even the challenges of relationships) is about to be a thing of the past. While we know that Max and Liz, and Michael and Alex might be stronger together than they are apart, we don’t know what or who is coming for them. And that means that while things may have started strong and in a way that gives us hope for the future of these characters that we have grown to love, that doesn’t mean that everyone will make it to the end of the season (or really the series).

The Season 4 premiere was a brilliant look at just why we love Roswell, New Mexico. It had everything we want and a little bit more. We got a look at all of our main characters, we got to see who our potential enemies are, and we got drama and some good old-fashioned alien-influenced police work. It was truly an episode that we have been building towards for three seasons and it was amazing. (It was also a little heartbreaking to realize this is the last season premiere we will get.)
