The Masked Singer: Serpent is unmasked and it really is a talented singer
By Gino Terrell
A double-elimination episode of The Masked Singer reveals the identity of Serpent.
The face behind the Serpent is finally revealed and it left judge Ken Jeong in tears.
FOX’s The Masked Singer unmasked performers Whatchamacallit and Serpent in a double-elimination episode on Wednesday. And the Serpent is…, Nicole Scherzinger guessed it, Dr. Elvis Francois also known as “The Singing Surgeon.” The viral music sensation made it down to the Group B Finals and was grateful for the opportunity.
“This is a once in a lifetime kind of situation, very different from what I do on a day-to-day basis — but something I’ll never forget for the rest of my life,” Francois said after the reveal. “Patients, oftentimes, turn on the television while they’re in their hospital beds and coming in [you know] a patient is watching The Masked Singer — putting a smile on their face, it’s just an incredible way for us to move forward together and I’m just happy to play a small part and humble.”
This author, along with Jenny McCarthy, thought this singer was Taye Diggs. This performer also stumped Robin Thicke who suggested Serpent was Boys II Men lead singer Wanya Morris before switching his pick to double down with guest judge Cheryl Hines as they for sure thought Scrubs actor Donald Faison was inside the costume.
As talented as a singer Serpent is, the idea was this performer was some sort of dual-threat as an actor and singer. This led to thinking the doctor clues were referring to an actor who played a doctor without even considering an actual orthopedic surgeon had the talent to hold their own this far in the competition.
“This is, like, legitimately the toughest season we’ve ever had and honestly, you are a winner. You are amazing,” Jeong told Francois.
Francois’ singing ability drew high praise from fellow professional doctor Jeong as he broke down in tears complimenting Francois for performing “Imagine,” which aired during a FOX living room concert special in May 2020.
“Your version of ‘Imagine’ got us through the pandemic,” the I Can See Your Voice host said. “In this concert of stars, like Elton John, Billy Joel, everybody, the best moment of that living room concert was you. And I told my wife, who’s also a doctor, like, you know, that’s what a real doctor does…this guy is smarter than any doctor on the planet and there’s just truly no one more talented than him and I’m crying because I’m jealous…but I just want you to know that you got us through a very difficult time.”
