There’s a good chance Taye Diggs is on The Masked Singer this season. Here’s why we think so.

There are some promising clues to support the theory that The CW’s All American star Taye Diggs is on FOX’s The Masked Singer this season.

The voice of Serpent has stunned judges during the fourth season of this reality competition show. Initially thinking this artist was Brian McKnight, which was also Nicole Scherzinger’s guess, the second performance by Serpent has shifted this author’s thinking to believe Diggs is behind this character.

After judge Jenny McCarthy pointed out a bottled milk clue could be a “Got Milk?” advertisement reference — which Diggs once appeared in — I noticed other clues that would support this theory.

Debut Performance Clue Package

One of the earliest images in this clue package shows Serpent sitting next to two books stacked on each other: one that reads “How to Dig Yourself Out of Debt” and a book with burgundy and gold lettering titled “Serpent Manual.” Not only is the first book a play on the How Stella Got Her Groove Back actor’s last name, but the two books may be a reference to the Malcom Lee classic motion picture The Best Man. Diggs played the Harper, the lead character in that movie who was also an author.

There was also a college reference in the video. Diggs graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in drama from the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Clue Package No. 2

There’s a phrase included where the Serpent says he could barely afford to pay “rent.” Diggs rose to fame in the mid ’90s when he acted in the Broadway play Rent. Diggs would also go on to star in the musical’s 2005 film adaption. Going back to the original clue package, the book titled “How to Dig Yourself Out of Debt” could have been inspired by the play with the infamous line, “How we gonna pay?”

Two other clues that seem to be associated with Diggs are an image of scrubs on a mannequin and Serpent suggesting they spent their childhood with a special interest in performance.

For six seasons, Diggs starred as a doctor on ABC’s Private Practice — a spin-off to Shonda Rhimes’ Grey’s Anatomy. The two-time NAACP award-winning actor once told Larry King he wanted early success and his stint on Broadway, where he was singing and acting, was a dream come true, as he was using the talents he had practiced as a kid.

There are two traits about this character that leaves the door open on this Diggs theory. A clue cited this celebrity was a troublemaker as a youngster before his father redirected him in life. This isn’t a detail the Brown Sugar actor has brought up in the past, but then again, he wouldn’t be the first celebrity who has come on the show and revealed a new revelation about their personal life.

Also, the voice doesn’t scream Diggs through the first two performances. But then again, as someone who has watched countless television shows and movies starring Diggs in roles portraying a football coach, a detective or a lawyer, he hasn’t put his singing voice on display. With this star’s background in theatre, there is no reason to doubt Diggs is capable of being the talented performer who has wowed millions of viewers as Serpent.
