Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD is coming to a close after seven seasons. How do you begin to prepare to say goodbye to these beloved characters?

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has survived far longer than many of us anticipated. And yet it’s still surprising for me to type that the series finale is right around the corner.

This show had far too much hype for its own good when it premiered in 2013, and was then handcuffed by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, it managed to grow and morph into its own thing, taking us on strange and wild adventures, giving us better versions of Inhumans (let’s not talk about the show), taking us to space, somehow managing to bring back Brett Dalton on numerous occasions, shoving us 80 years into the future, and experiencing more time travel than we thought possible.

It’s a show that’s going to be missed by its fans. So, how do we even begin to prepare ourselves to say goodbye to all of these characters?

We’ve had seven years with them, seven seasons to watch them grow and evolve (some literally) into well-rounded characters, forming relationships and becoming this interconnected family of ragtag mostly-non-superheroes in a superhero world.

Agents of SHIELD
MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “A Trout in the Milk” – After a bumpy landing in the disco decade, the team – Daniel Sousa in tow – reunites with more than one familiar face at the S.H.I.E.L.D. hangout and discovers exactly how to dismantle the Chronicoms’ latest plan. But when they get too close for comfort, the Zephyr unexpectedly leaps forward again, this time to a date pivotal to not only the future of S.H.I.E.L.D. but to the future of Director Mack as well on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” airing WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. – (ABC/Mitch Haaseth)CHLOE BENNET /

Who knew that Skye would go from an annoying orphan hacker into one of the strongest female characters and become Daisy Johnson? That May would be the one giving the emotional speeches at the end? Or that Coulson would truly become a life model decoy like we thought he was at the start of the show?

And that’s not even starting on FitzSimmons and their wacky relationship over these seven seasons and through the Framework. Or Grant Ward, from SHIELD agent to Hydra operative to Hive … to the SHIELD agent he should have been when we saw him again in the Framework.

We’ve watched beloved characters come and go, from Bobbi and Hunter to Cal Zabo to Antoine Triplett. Agents of SHIELD sparkled when it was truly on its game.

I legitimately have no ideas where this series finale is going to take us. Last week’s episode ended with Malick and the Chronicoms destroying every single SHIELD base on Earth in the 1980s. Mack’s parents are dead, Jiaying is dead, and Daisy hasn’t been born yet. Fitz may very well be dead.

I have no idea how our SHIELD team can win. Everything is mounted against them. But they’ve seen worse. They’ve conquered more. They’re bound to figure it out in the last two hours of this show, on their final mission together. One last time, right?

dark. Next. Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: What was Simmons' revelation?

What do you hope to see in the Agents of SHIELD series finale? Will our team win? Will they reset the time streams? Let us know in the comments!
