Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: What was Simmons’ revelation?
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD gave us a quick glimpse of Simmons’ remembering Fitz and his whereabouts. It may be even worse than anyone thought.
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has kept Fitz hidden for its final season. With four episodes to go, we’re more than impatient.
I mean, this isn’t the first time I’m going to cover this particular topic this season either.
But this week’s episode gave us a little bit more information. Not much. But just enough to make us all a little more worried. To save the crew from inevitable death by space/time vortex, Daisy and Coulson convince Simmons to take out DIANA, her memory suppressor, so they can fix the time-jump drive.
Because once she has the answer on how to fix it, the memories of Fitz and what they had to do to save the team — what she’s trying to forget — come flooding back. All the credit in the world to Elizabeth Henstridge’s wonderful acting, because the 10 seconds of her absolutely losing her mind before the loop reset are gut-wrenching and heartbreaking.
And we don’t even know what she’s seeing!
Which is what we’re here to theorize about … again.
As the episode aired, with her horrified reaction to the memories flooding back in, the initial assumption is that Fitz is probably dead. Why else would Simmons have such a visceral reaction?
However, that would be too much of a cop-out/write-off for Fitz’s character after seven seasons. I really hope it isn’t the case.
It’s very possible he is off raising their daughter. We still don’t know how much time passed before Daisy and co. were rescued; it’s possible that FitzSimmons were able to start their family
And I know it’s easy to believe that Simmons would name the brain implant after Princess Diana, but what if that’s her daughter’s name? A way to keep her with her even when she can’t remember her? It would be even more heartbreaking to know you’re missing out on watching your child grow up.
…Or be taken by the Chronicoms, and Fitz is wherever he is to both guide them to fix the timeline and to try to save their daughter simultaneously.
Or he is also an LMD like Coulson wherever he is, and she had to kill him so the Chronicoms would stop hunting him, put his mind in an LMD, and sent the LMD on its way.
That last one seems far-fetched, but this show has thrown plenty of crazier twists our way. Henstridge has said that Fitz will show up this season, but it’s quite possible it’s just in flashbacks or recorded video form. Which would suck, but if it’s all we get, it’s all we get.
We’re just going to have to see what happens in the last four episodes of the season.
What are your thoughts? Is Fitz dead? Or is he really off somewhere leading the Zephyr through the time jumps? Let us know in the comments!
