Marvel rumors: Could Nick Fury be the next character to get a spinoff?

The latest Marvel rumor suggests that a Nick Fury-centered show could be the next Marvel spinoff coming to the unreleased Disney streaming service. Others say Fury isn’t exactly the one who’ll be getting a show.

Marvel is being extra generous to those characters who might need a little more time to shine in the spotlight — especially those who likely won’t get to star in their own movie. To kick off the new venture for Marvel, the company announced both Loki and Scarlet Witch would be among the first characters to get their own limited series spinoff on the Disney streaming service.

Since then, fans have been more than eager to speculate which characters would be next to recieve their own limited series. We’ve aptly suggested Shuri (and even Angela Bassett nominated Shuri for her own show), but it seems that’s not quite in the works just yet.

But one character who could be in the running for their own TV show is SHIELD’s very own Nick Fury. This, as of now, is just a rumor that MCU Cosmic’s Jeremy Conrad mentioned on his podcast.

In the podcast, he says that there could be at least two more spinoff shows to be developed — one of which would include Nick Fury. The other, according to him, won’t be revealed by his sources. (She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Hawkeye are just a few of the characters he says the mystery show won’t be about.)

If the rumors turn out to be true, a Fury show could be interesting for a few different reasons. Mainly, we’ll soon become familiar with a Nick Fury from the past thanks to Captain Marvel. This gives Marvel some leeway in the direction they could take the show in. We could see Nick Fury in the aftermath of Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home. Or, we could see Nick Fury’s ’90’s adventures while he’s still climbing the ranks in SHIELD.

Overall, this open road of possibilities is pretty much like the direction the Loki and Scarlet Witch shows can go in. Will they focus on the past adventures of these characters, or will these characters have a new life beyond what happens after Avengers 4? Either direction sounds good, as all fans just want to know what’s happened to their favorite characters at any point in their lives. So there’s no way to say which one direction would be a better call.

And though the prospects of having a Nick Fury show sound nice, others seem to think that Fury won’t be the next person to get his own show. Peter Sciretta of /Film has it that something “bigger and better” is on the way. Yet he’s still looking for additional confirmation before he reveals who that could be about.

From what it looks like, there’s a lot of noise out there from people who claim to know which character is next on Marvel’s slate. Each of these are just rumors, after all. So it’s hard to give weight to one rumor over the other in claiming who’s “right” and who’s “wrong.” At some point, we will officially get to know which character is due for their own series. And whoever it may be, we know it’ll be exciting none the less.
