If there’s one thing I pride myself on, it’s being a romance reader, but every once in a while, a book will creep up on me. That’s exactly what happened with So Happy Together by Olivia Worley.
While romance is the genre I read the most of, mysteries and thrillers are books I will always pick up. Maybe it’s the fact that the two are so different yet can elicit some of the same reactions…who knows? Either way, this book immediately pulled me in.
With a cover and title like that, there’s no way you won’t be pulled in. However, if that’s not enough to convince you, maybe the comp titles will get you, which are You and Promising Young Woman. Sounds like the perfect thing to get me to read your books.
Before getting into my thoughts, I’d like to thank the publisher, Minotaur Books for sending me an ARC of this one so I was able to read and review it. While it was a surprise read for June, it’s still one I think about constantly.
So Happy For You is an utterly insane story in the best way.
This book starts as you might imagine. Boy meets girl, the two fall for each other, and then they live happily ever after. Well, not exactly as Jane meets Colin, falls for him, and mere months later, he’s dumping her. Jane isn’t letting that stop her from being with her true love, so she decides to take matters into her own hands.
Jane ends up stalking Colin and thus becomes enamored with his new girlfriend, Zoe. It gets even weirder when Jane and Zoe become fast friends. It’s truly one of the weirdest aspect to this book but the tension only ramps up from that point. Soon, lines become blurry while Jane and Zoe uncover some information about Colin.
Since this is a thriller, I don’t want to give too much away but let me tell you that So Happy Together feels like a rollercoaster ride. There is drama, tension, and some downright unhinged moments in this book. The way everything unfolds in the end just felt so cinematic, which is why I can see why this book will be a polarizing read.
Some might appreciate how far the story goes while others are wanting less. Even so, Olivia Worley does an excellent job of not giving too much away as the final 25% of the book had me glued to it. I didn’t want to put it down and every single reveal felt even crazier than the last. If you are interested in this book at all, you should pick it up.
So Happy Together would make an excellent beach read or the perfect one if you have a long flight, as you won't be able to put it down. Whether you're new to Olivia Worley or not, So Happy Together will have you questioning yourself and everything going on in the book.
