Spongebob Squarepants to make history as the 2024 Kids Choice Awards host

Spongebob Squarepants has been recruited for a brand new role besides the hilarious under-the-sea sponge we all know him as. He'll be hosting the 2024 Kids Choice Awards on Nickelodeon and is the first animated "celebrity" in the show's history to have the honor. And you can bet Spongebob's best buddy, Partick Starr, the starfish, will accompany him during the event.

Per a statement from Nickelodeon, Spongebob will undergo a transformation with "enhanced graphics and advanced augmented reality" for the KCAs. We're not exactly sure how this works or how Spongebob will interact with the audience and presenters, but that's the excitement, and we'll be hooked no matter what.

You might be surprised to learn that Spongebob is celebrating his 25th anniversary this year. The popular animation, with the icon voiced by Tom Kenny, premiered in May 1999 and became an immediate hit among fans and Nickelodeon. Throughout his two-and-a-half decades of superstardom, Spongebob has become a face of pop culture and has had many adventures (and memes).

Spongebob's hosting of the KCAs is part of his 25th-anniversary celebration, and Nickelodeon, along with its parent company, Paramount, will have more surprises in the upcoming weeks. On Paramount+, fans can dive into all things Spongebob Squarepants, including his classic cartoon (with new episodes coming!), spinoff series, and movies.

At Super Bowl 58 this year, Spongebob hosted the Big Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. His hosting was again part of his 25th anniversary, making the Super Bowl even more enjoyable and fun.

For the fashion-forward individual, Crocs footwear launched a special Spongebob collection in various colors and shoe charms. In addition to the Crocs, more merchandise featuring the yellow guy will drop this year. It's a huge honor and will propel Spongebob's popularity even further.

When does the 2024 Kids Choice Awards featuring Spongebob as the host air?

Nickelodeon scheduled the 2024 Kids Choice Awards: Live From Bikini Bottom! for Saturday, July 13th, 2024, at 8 PM EST/7 PM CST. It'll stream the next day on Paramount+ and will simulcast on Nickelodeon's sister channels, Nicktoons, Nick Jr., and TeenNick, at later dates.

At this time, no presenters or performers have been determined, but expect to see big names in the industry to show up, both on stage and on the Red Carpet.
