All American is filled with romances. But, if you go all the way back to the series premiere, when you look at Olivia's budding feelings for Spencer and the clear build-up of the love triangle between Spencer, Layla, and Asher, along with the growing tension between Spencer, Layla, and Olivia, there was no clear signal that the two who would be getting married would be Layla and Jordan.

While always sharing mutual friends and existing in the same orbit, for the most part, All American never gave Jordan and Layla that much one-on-one screen time in the earlier seasons. They underwent separate relationships and mostly lived individual lives that intertwined when the plot called for it, even though it had been established that they were childhood friends. Other than a few moments here and there, they rarely shared a strong storyline together. But that all changed in season four when Layla moved into the Baker house, and slowly, throughout the fourth season, Jordan and Layla's friendship became something more.

Never rushed or feeling forced, these two perfectly balanced the concept of a friends-to-lovers dynamic. But, while watching them sneak around and hide their romance was amusing in season five, it is what All American has done with them in season six surrounding their marriage storyline that has really transformed them into All American's best couple.

Due to the decision to stick to furthering Layla's mental health storyline, and how it plays into her past and feelings about her mother, has given All American the opportunity to explore a different type of relationship, one where the couple's biggest moments of the season comes from significant conversations about support and being there for one another.

Jordan Baker has grown exponentially throughout the series, but it is never clearer than when he shares emotional scenes with Layla, grounding her and reminding her of his presence as he strives to ensure her as well as he can that he is there for her, and will be there for her, through all the ups and downs that come with Layla's mental health journey.

All American, as the central characters have grown older, has taken its main romances more seriously. Spencer and Olivia discuss the importance of boundaries and the significance of learning what it means to grow back together and re-learn who they have become after a long time apart. Asher and Jaymee's journey portrays the struggles and excitement of parenthood as they decide to choose each other and their family over old dreams that do not fit into their lives anymore. Coop's dedication to standing beside Patience through the trial against Miko and wanting to help her in any way she can also shows another layer of what their relationship could become.

Every romance on All American in season six is one that has existed for a while and has a solid foundation. However, while many couples may thrive in the consistency of their dynamic, Jordan and Layla continue to showcase their ability to pivot in times when one is insecure, and bring them back to their center.

The show itself never even lets their conflicts or concerns last longer than it needs to, as this duo is about wanting open communication, talking to each other, and working things out as a team.

Regardless of whether All American allows fans the ability to watch Layla and Jordan's eventual wedding or not, fans are still being gifted a solid romance founded on friendship, mutual unconditional love, and support.
