Girl power is in. After The Marvels’ release date was delayed from July to November earlier this year, fans have been clamoring for the chance to see these titular heroines in action. Well, wait no further: you can check out the teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ new film right now.

Directed by Nia DaCosta (Little Woods, Candyman), this newest entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe tells the story of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) as the three unite under curious circumstances.

Marvel Studios gave this official synopsis, as reported by Variety:

“In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.'”

The trailer shows each of the heroes inexplicably swapping places with one another whenever they use their powers, resulting in Kamala being transported to space (where she meets Goose!) and Carol finding herself in Kamala’s Captain Marvel-themed bedroom. Vellani’s comedic chops are put to good use here as she reacts to the chaos, and the trailer’s song choice (“Intergalactic” by The Beastie Boys) adds to the overall fun feel.

The Marvels is the latest entry in Marvel’s catalog that features women at the forefront, both on screen and on the creative team. DaCosta, who co-wrote the screenplay, is the fourth woman and first Black woman to direct an MCU film, Variety reports. We’re looking forward to seeing these powerful ladies break down barriers on and off-screen!
