Truth hurts. But in this case, the truth is good as hell (ok, the puns are stopping as of now).  But after Lizzo made a return to music in late 2021 and found massive success with her second single “About Damn Time”, the anticipation for her fourth studio album has just increased. Why? Lizzo just received her first Emmy nomination!

Lizzo is now an Emmy nominee.

Lizzo, although known for her music, has largely been an activist for body positivity and self-love l. Because so, it is no surprise that her Amazon series Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, landed her an Emmy nomination. In the eight-episode reality series, Lizzo is featured as a coach for dancers who she called the “Big Grrrls”. Throughout the series, the dancers are competing to win a role as a backup dancer for the pop star.

In response to the nomination, Lizzo wrote in an Instagram post:

"“We didn’t do this for awards, we did this for ourselves, for the lives we touched making this… To shake up the industry.. and show the world how BEAUTIFUL AND TALENTED WE AREEEEE! BIG GRRRLS ARE BOOKED, BLESSED AND BUSY YOU BETTA WATCH OUT!”"

Her nomination comes after she signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios in August 2020 to produce and create exclusive projects for the platform. After the series premiered in March of this year, it proved Lizzo was set to have a revamp in her career.

Although the first single of her upcoming album (Special), “Rumors”, was met with critical acclaim after its release, it failed to chart as a Top 10 single on Billboard.  After the release of “About Damn Time” in April 2022, it debuted at number 50 and peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

Because so, it is safe to say this will be Lizzo’s year.
