Cameron Diaz is back – and this time she’s heading to Netflix!

Diaz will star alongside Jamie Foxx in the Netflix film, Back in Action. The pair previously starred together in the 2014 adaptation of Annie. Her eight-year hiatus began soon after with Diaz confirming her retirement in 2018. Now, the star has confirmed the news with an Instagram story post that said: “(Jamie Foxx) only you could get me back in action. I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!” Foxx echoed her excitement with a Twitter post of them speaking. Diaz is heard saying “I feel excited but, I don’t know how to do this, you know?”

While not much has been announced about the new film, production is expected to begin later this year.  Seth Gordon, known for Horrible Bosses, will direct the Netflix production. Brendan O’ Brien, known for his work on Neighbors, will co-write the film with Gordon. Foxx will executive produce the film alongside Datari Turner, O’Brien, and Mark McNair.

Diaz previously stated about her retirement: “You only have 100 percent, we don’t have two 100 percent. Right? So you’ve got to break up that 100 percent… How much are you going to give to your family? How much are you going to give to your career?”  In 2019 she also stated, “The way I look at it is that I’ve given more than half of my life to the public. I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world. If I decide to.”

However, in the years she was off the Hollywood scene she married Benji Madden in 2015 and gave birth to their two-year-old daughter Raddix, in December 2019. Apart from Annie, Diaz’s previous role was in 2010’s Knight and Day, in which she starred alongside Tom Cruise. Foxx was most recently seen on Spider-Man: No Way Home.
