Netflix gives us our first look at The Midnight Club adaptation
If you grew up in the 90s and enjoyed horror (and reading), there are likely a few authors that instantly come to mind. And if R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike were at the top of your list, you are not alone. And now, Pike’s The Midnight Club is finally coming to life on our screens with the help of Netflix and horror master, Mike Flanagan.
As someone who devoured The Midnight Club back in the day (yes, I’m old), I can attest to the fact that this was the kind of story that is equal parts horror and thriller, with a dash of supernatural mystery. I have long described this book to people as a book about a place where terminally ill young adults come to spend their last moments, in a place where nothing is as it seems.
If you haven’t read the book yet, now is the time because, thanks to Netflix‘s Geeked Week 2022, we have our first look at the upcoming series based on The Midnight Club book by Christopher Pike, brought to life by the same creative visionary that gave us The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass.
Netflix teases us with our first look at The Midnight Club
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the teaser is the fact that these young adults are not alone in the house they share. And while it is not clear who (or what) the mystery figure is that flashes in the dark and shadows of the scene as these teenagers speak out a creepy toast, it is clear that he is not quite in the picture just yet.
Wondering about the toast offered by our Midnight Club? It reads,
"To those before. To those after. To us now.And to those beyond.Seen or unseen. Here but not here."
This toast is both creepy and symbolic. A look at these teens whose lives are destined to be cut short early. But the real question is what exactly will lead to their demise.
