As Walt Disney World celebrates its 50th anniversary, the most magical place on Earth is more than iconic characters waving from the parade route. While many classic rides will always be part of the theme park experience, guests want bigger and more memorable thrill rides. Luckily, the Disney Imagineers are delivering.

Given that Orlando is the theme park capital of the world, visitors and locals have a wide array of theme park options. While various publications crown one attraction or locale as the best of the best, many people have differing opinions. For most, it comes down to what drives a person to walk through that gate.

When Disney Parks unveils a new ride, it is more than just a combination of steel tracks that takes guests on a few minutes’ adventure. It is about weaving a story into that experience. From the first step into the queue till the exit out the door, the guest is immersed into that storyline. It is one of the reasons why a Disney ride may be different from other theme parks across the country.

While storytelling coasters and immersive queues are not a new concept, some theme parks do it better than others. Universal, with its Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure and Velocicoaster, has proven it can blend the thrills with the story. It is one of the many reasons why these theme park rides continue to have people waiting to ride them over and over again.

Given that more people want that heart-thudding, adrenaline-filled experience, Disney has begun to embrace that type of adventure. As previews of the new Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind have shown, people want that intense experience.

Even though some people might ponder how intellectual property fits within the EPCOT world, the indoor roller coaster has everyone talking. This ride is far from It’s a Small World, from the launch type to the music to the rotating cars.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind is just the start. Recently, the Tron ride in Magic Kingdom has started its test runs. While this ride is adapted from another Disney theme park, it shows that the quiet, gentle meander experience needs to be contrasted with the more extreme.

Even though the Disney Parks footprint might not have unlimited expansion space, adding those bigger, bolder thrills excites guests and can even drive a new group to put on those Mickey ears. It isn’t that the magical memories fade with the intense screams. The evolution shows that all guests, no matter their preferences, have a spot in Disney Parks.
